CAUTI Alliance officially launches

Brussels, 17 March 2026 – The CAUTI Alliance was officially launched on 10 February 2026 with a kick-off meeting bringing together healthcare professionals, patient organisations and health system representatives committed to improving the prevention and management of urinary tract infections (UTIs) across Europe, with a particular focus on catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) and incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD).
The Alliance aims to raise awareness of the burden of UTIs in healthcare settings, promote best practices in catheter management and infection prevention, and encourage multidisciplinary collaboration among healthcare professionals and stakeholders.

Members of the CAUTI Alliance
The Alliance currently includes the following organisations and representatives:
• European Specialist Nurses Organisation (ESNO)
• European Geriatric Medicine Society (EUGMS)
• European Biosafety Network (EBN)
• European Society for Emergency Medicine (EUSEM)
• European University Association (EUA)
• Cancer Patients Europe
• European Health Management Association (EHMA)
• European Sepsis Alliance
• General Council of Nursing of Spain
• Nurses and Allied Health Professionals Committee (NaAHP)
• Clinical experts from the European Sepsis Alliance
The European Association of Urology (EAU) participates in the Alliance as an observer.

Next steps
In the coming months, the CAUTI Alliance will publish a Call to Action outlining key priorities to strengthen prevention
and management of UTIs, including catheter-associated infections, across Europe.
The Alliance also plans to present this Call to Action during an official launch event at the European Parliament, bringing together policymakers, healthcare professionals and patient representatives to discuss how to improve infection prevention and patient safety in European healthcare systems.
